The female domestic horse (Mare) is seasonally polyestrous. This means the mare shows sexual receptivity several times within a specific window period. This applies to Indian native breeds of Horses like Marwari, Kathiwari etc.

The complex follicular dynamics and the ovulation timings are also unique in mares. While the mare shows sexual receptivity over a period of 4-8 days the ovulation prediction is a challenge for the mare owner.
